Winter officially comes to Colorado Springs on December 21, 2008 at 9:04am (MST). The Winter Solstice marks the shortest day of the year. The sun will be at its lowest point on the horizon. Not to worry, though! Colorado Springs has a very moderate winter climate, even at a 6,000 ft. elevation. The normal winter high is in the low-to-mid 40s, with prevalent sunny days, and the temperature rising above 50° many days. Snow fall averages about 45" per year, but the months of December, January, and February only get about 5" of snow on average each. Just to the west of Colorado Springs, the mountain snows really fly and provide some of the best skiing in the world.

We have traveled to all the Colorado ski areas and resorts and have taken pictures of most of them for photo tours on HelloColoradoSprings.com.
The closest ski resort to Colorado Springs is at Breckenridge, CO, about 105 miles to the northwest. Take a photo tour of Brekenridge Ski Resort .

You can also take a photo tour of the town of Breckenridge. The town of Breckenridge compliments its mountain with a human-fed spirit that comes close to rivaling its natural beauty. A bustling Main Street with Victorian charm provides much character, but don't miss amenities such as the River Walk Center ice skating rinks and public golf course.

Winter scenes can be majestic in Colorado Springs neighborhoods. Here are some photos of the University Park neighborhood on an especially beautiful winter day.
