Colorado Springs residents love their dogs, and it shows in the fact that our fair city has won two awards for being a welcoming home to dogs and dog lovers.
Named "DogTownUSA® 2008" by Dog Fancy Magazine
Awarded #1 City Where Dogs are Happiest by Men's Health Magazine
Awarded #1 Best Big City in Best Place to Live by Money Magazine - Ok, so this one was actually for the year 2006, but Money Magazine hasn't done another Top Ten Best Big Cities to live since then (their yearly Best Places to Live lists usually only include small cities), so we assume that means we're still the best!
Low Cost of Living
The cost of living in Colorado Springs is quite low when compared to the national average and high cost areas. The national average cost of living is given a vlaue of 100. Colorado is rated at 93.2% of the national average, whereas Los Angeles was rated at 146.5% of the national average. (According to Colorado Springs Economic Development Corporation, 3rd Quarter 2008).
The result is people from very low cost areas suffer a little sticker shock when arriving here. Others from average and higher cost areas see living here as a great bargain for such a nice place.
#7 City for Likely Home Price Increases - Forbes Magazine
This is a long-range prediction, but does show that home prices are close to bottoming and will rebound up sooner than other cities. It indicates that buying a home now, when prices are at or near bottom, will allow for a lot of future price appreciation and equity gain for savvy home buyers. Read the full article here.
